SU Careers: NEW Oxford SU / Student Associations Career Progression Scheme

Oxford SU / Student Associations Career Progression Scheme 2022-24

Oxford SU / student associations is a charity that exists to represent the 24,000 students studying at the University of Oxford. As a student-led democratic membership organisation, an SU/ student associations is unlike any other charity. It’s the issues that matter to students that drive us. Here, they can feel assured that their views count, their voice is strong, and together we’ll work to make student life even better. We are looking to recruit 5 new and exciting positions as part of our NEW Career Progression Scheme, to work with us in two of our main strategic areas – Operations and Advice & Student Representation.

Our Career Progression Scheme (2022-24)

This programme will build on your existing passions, equipping you with two years of third-sector charity experience and a variety of skills to take your career to the next level.

During your time with us, you will develop an in-depth understanding of how Students’ Unions / student associations as charities work while specialising in your area of interest. You will take ownership of a number of exciting projects – seeing them through from idea to action, developing through doing.

We are a small organisation, but we have a big impact. We do this by working together. You will collaborate with teams across the organisation and work closely with our Sabbatical Officers, staff team and senior staff members.

Our extensive learning and development package will help you build skills in a range of areas including project management, charity finance and budgets, governance principles and showcasing impact. You will also have the opportunity to develop your leadership and management skills by studying for an ILM Level 3 Award.

And after your 24 months with us, we will help you find the next career move that’s right for you, supporting with job applications, interview preparation, references and connecting you with networks and mentors within and outside of the Oxford community.

Who we are looking for – Could it be you?

Although this looks like a graduate scheme, it’s a little different. You don’t need to be a graduate to apply and we welcome applications from those with a variety of backgrounds. What matters to us is your enthusiasm, your commitment to our mission and values and, with our support, your drive to develop your own skills and potential. We are looking for 5 team members to work with us in two of our main strategic areas – Operations and Advice & Student Representation.

Our Operations team works tirelessly behind the scenes to keep the SU / student associations running in the areas of financial management, HR, marketing, sales, and communications. If you are interested in engaging students through exciting and meaningful content, planning and running some of our biggest events, and developing our commercial income potential, these could be the roles for you:

  • Marketing & Communications Coordinator
  • Sales & Marketing Coordinator

Our Advice & Student Representation team are the student support network here at Oxford SU. They are here to listen to students, give them a voice, support our campaigns and student representatives, and be our experts in specialist policy areas like sustainability or mental health. If you would relish in working directly with our student communities to improve their experience, you could be the perfect fit for one of these roles:

  • Policy & Representation (College) Coordinator
  • Academic & Access Coordinator
  • Advice & Wellbeing Coordinator

If this opportunity interests you, we would love to hear from you. You can find these opportunities on SU.Careers and on our website here. Submit your CV and cover letter to [email protected] by Monday the 2nd of May 2022 (17:00).
