City St George’s Students’ Union is seeking a Lay Trustee with strong finance expertise to join its Board of Trustees and help guide a dynamic, impactful student‑focused charity.
As a Lay Trustee, you will provide independent oversight of the Union’s financial health, governance and long‑term sustainability. Working alongside student, sabbatical and other lay trustees, you will play a key role in scrutinising budgets, monitoring financial controls, assessing risk, and ensuring compliance with charity and company law. You will bring strategic insight to complex decisions, constructively challenge assumptions, and support the Board to make evidence‑led, financially responsible choices.
We are particularly interested in candidates with experience of charity or not‑for‑profit finance, audit, risk management, or senior‑level financial oversight. You will be confident interpreting financial information, advising on reserves and investments, and helping to strengthen financial capability across a diverse Board.
This is a voluntary role, with reasonable expenses covered. The commitment is typically 5–6 Board meetings per year, plus participation in at least one sub‑committee or working group.
This is a rewarding opportunity to use your financial expertise to make a tangible difference to students’ lives while contributing at Board level to an ambitious and values‑driven organisation.
Applications are particularly welcomed from under‑represented groups.
