Hours: based on 37-hours per week, Monday to Friday with occasional evening and weekend work

Salary: Grade D £25,733, progressing to £28,381

Main purpose of the job

To act as the digital and content creator lead within the team and provide the expertise to other staff members within the Union across our online and digital network. This role will have primary responsibility for our online systems and platforms, including our social media channels and the Students’ Union website, working with our content management system to keep the website updated. Alongside this, the role has responsibility for content creation, including generating video-based content and looking at ways to engage with and expand our reach and audience, utilising our full digital network.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Work with Union staff to produce, edit and update the website using our content management system, acting as the main point of contact for our website. This will require editing of copy to ensure it has the right tone of voice and fits in within our brand and style guidelines.
  • Utilising our social media channels to ensure they are effectively used. This will be achieved by ensuring everything is regularly updated, responding quickly to any questions and helping to maintain, build and grow our online community. You will also be expected to use different analytical sites to monitor and evaluate performance of our digital channels and make suggestions to improve engagement and our online presence.
  • Working with teams and taking a lead on content creation across the Students’ Union. This will include planning, recording and editing video-based content, that is engaging to our membership and fully promoted in a variety of ways.
  • Ensure we are future-proof by evaluating and recommending any new and emerging social media trends.
  • Work with the Communications and Marketing team and other departments to collate and send out regular emails to different segments of our membership.
  • Propose inventive online and digital ways to raise awareness around campaigns, key events, activities and services.
  • Play an active part in driving additional revenue streams, including general and graduation merchandise, print shop, sponsorship and external marketing sales.
  • Work alongside other departments and teams to import participation and engagement data and produce monthly demographic reports.
  • Look after the management of our podcasts and work with other teams and students to use this as a way to expose the work that we do in different and engaging formats.

  • To contribute to the aims of the Union supporting other staff and departments, working on cross departmental projects and from time to time helping out where required to ensure the Students’ Union fulfils its mission, vision, values and strategic aims.
  • To take a full and active part in the Union’s environmental initiatives with particular regard to taking personal responsibility for recycling and energy conservation.
