We believe every student at the University of Suffolk should have a fantastic experience.

We work hard to represent the voice of our students, provide critical advice when our students need it and deliver sports, societies, events and much more to help our students get the most out of university. The University of Suffolk is one of the youngest universities in the UK and has been on an exceptional journey of growth, which will continue for the foreseeable future.

We have been reflecting on our role, and in this journey of growth, we have recruited a team of experts to support us in this work throughout our Turnaround period (February 2023 to February 2024). We seek a new Chief Executive to help finalise our five-year strategic plan, which prioritises student-focused and student-led services and activities. They will work with our student leaders and staff team to implement it with thoughtfulness, resourcefulness, and compassion. This opportunity would be great for a first-time Chief Executive who can demonstrate where they have inspired and supported member-led change and activities.

As our Chief Executive, you will have high emotional intelligence and a visionary, inclusive, and empowering leadership style. You will also have a love for small students’ unions and a meaningful connection to Ipswich and Suffolk. You might have some experience in income generation but certainly experienced in leading growth and/or change programmes. As a Chief Executive of a small students’ union, you will be comfortable working at a strategic, multi-stakeholder level and willing to pitch in operationally when needed. A good sense of humour helps, too!

We welcome applications from all candidates, especially those traditionally underrepresented in leadership. We acknowledge that those from marginalised communities disproportionately experience imposter syndrome or self-doubt when applying for senior positions. We also know and appreciate the value that these leaders bring. If you are unsure about applying, we would be happy to have an informal conversation with you to explore potential and fit. Additionally, if there is anything that we can do to make your application process smoother and more accessible, we would love to hear from you.

Best of luck with your application, and we hope to meet you soon.
