Chair of the Board of Trustees

Purpose of the post: 

To Chair the meetings for the Board of Trustees, through leading on meetings and key issues, ensuring all voices are heard and utilised for the betterment of the charity. To support the CEO through agile Line Management along with support from other trustees. Ensuring the CEO is achieving the strategic vision of the organisation and building up financial stability. 

Key Responsibilities: 

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: 

Role Specific Responsibilities 

  • Management: Provides Line Management to the CEO.
  • Preside Over Board Meetings: Facilitate and lead Board meetings, ensuring that time is used efficiently and discussions remain focused on key priorities.
  • Provide Leadership During Meetings: Direct discussions and act as a mediator when there are differing viewpoints, ensuring that all perspectives are considered respectfully, and decisions are made collaboratively. Act as a conciliary element when areas differ. The Chair is obliged to use this authority appropriately.
  • Ensure Effective Decision-Making Processes: Develop and implement effective decision-making processes within the Board, continuously seeking improvements to enhance governance practices.
  • Execution of Board Decisions: Ensure that decisions made by the Board are implemented effectively by relevant parties within the organisation.
  • Oversee Risk Management: Work with the Board to determine the organisation's risk appetite and ensure effective oversight of risk management processes.
  • Board Composition and Development: Ensure that the Board possesses the necessary skills and expertise to support good governance and the development of the organisation.
  • Governance: Ensure relevant agendas, notes and reports are circulated, filed accordingly and relevant matters are updated accordingly, for example on the website.
  • Trustee Management: Provide overall leadership to the Trustee Board. When required lead the process for removing Trustees when necessary due to completion of tenure or misconduct, and lead on the recruitment for replacements, following appropriate procedures and legal requirements.
  • Strategic Direction: Ensure that the Board operates within its charitable objectives and provides clear strategic direction for the organisation's growth and development.
  • Financial Oversight: Fulfil the Board's duty to ensure the organisation's financial health, including implementing systems for financial accountability, growth, and sustainability.
  • Any other tasks commensurate with the role.
