About

Sunderland Students’ Union is an Education charity, dedicated to making the University experience of our members valuable for life. Every student registered on a course with the University of Sunderland is a member and we represent students’ interests in all areas of their University experience. This includes everything from representing students’ academic interests to offering welfare advice and support, from organising fun social activities to help build social capital to helping students to make a positive impact on the city of Sunderland. Our objectives are: YOUR Voice YOUR Course and YOU YOUR Place

Summary

The Student Opportunities Coordinator (Volunteering) is part of the Student Opportunities Team; a team focused on developing, delivering, and supporting opportunities that enable us to shape our students lives for the future.

Job Description

Volunteering has so many benefits. As a volunteer you can develop skills and confidence, meet new people, and make a difference in the University community and beyond. Sunderland Students’ Union has a long and successful history of working with student volunteers, something we are committed to continuing. We have recently reviewed the volunteering offer in response to research with our members and the wider sector. Our students tell us they want to develop skills and confidence, they want to feel a sense of wellbeing and they want to meet likeminded people. This role will look at these aspirations and develop approaches to meet these needs in ways that engage and involve students.

The Student Opportunities Coordinator (Volunteering) role centres on signposting students to high-quality volunteering and skills development opportunities, enabling students to understand and translate what they have gained through participating. The Coordinator will lead volunteering opportunities, such as SU Buddies, but will mainly signpost and support students into volunteer roles within the Students’ Union, the University and out into the wider community. Internal volunteering opportunities include Part Time Officers, Course Reps, Wellbeing Champions, Society Leaders, and Welcome Crew.

To be successful in this role you will have experience of volunteering, an understanding of the Investors in Volunteering framework and a commitment to delivering for students. You will be focused on continuous improvement, shaping the offer and experience for students through listening and learning.
