About'Here at Solent Students’ Union we pride ourselves on being student run, student led. This means everything we do is for the benefit of our students. We are dedicated to supporting our students both academically and non-academically, and we work hard to ensure our students have the best experience possible during their time with us. We also like to have fun, in the past we have held Puppy Rooms during exam periods, and we recently organised a staff bake off! Being located in the city centre we are ideally located close to pretty much anything, including a variety of clubs, restaurants and leisure activities.'
Solent Students’ Union support and represent over 6,500 students at our city centre location in Southampton and campuses in the surrounding areas, helping our members to have an amazing experience during their time with us.
As Communications Coordinator, you will be supporting the Students’ Union with content creation, media requests and acting as the primary contact for our Sabbatical Officers to help with their communication requests.
Effective communication is extremely important for students and the Students’ Union as it makes students aware of what is happening and how to get involved with campaigns, elections, events and more! Sabbatical Officer campaigns and manifestos are the reason they are in their position – to make change happen at Solent University – which requires a lot of communication support to get students involved and make their voices heard!
The successful individual will possess experience and enthusiasm to work within a fast paced, dynamic, and exciting organisation. They should understand what good communications and engagement is, and how this can help Solent students.
The Communications Coordinator will have an excellent knowledge of current themes and issues within higher education, social media trends and experience with graphic design, as well as having the passion to support Sabbatical Officers to ensure they achieve success during their time with us.
The benefit to students is immense. Our students cite their involvement in societies, campaigns, events and even running to have an Officer role much more as a reason for not just enjoying their time at university but even for continuing with studies. None of this can happen without strong and efficient communications and engagement.
