Job Description

Salary

£15,418.92 pro rata of £28,525 (20 hours per week)

Who we are

Part business, part charity, part membership body – students’ unions are seriously fun places to work. They are organisations in their own right. Professionally run, but different. Professional teams support elected student leaders to make change, improve lives and fulfill potential; we help make it happen.

Founded in 1897, LSE Students’ Union is one of the oldest Students’ Unions in the UK and is the representative and campaigning body for students at The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).  Like other Students’ Unions, it also funds and facilitates student activities on campus, including societies, sports clubs through the Athletics Union (AU), the Media Group and Raising and Giving (RAG) charitable fundraising initiatives.

About the job

Do you want to help students to get the most out of their education? Are you passionate about ensuring that students have an equitable experience and are treated as partners in their education?

We’re looking for an organised and passionate individual to join our Representation Team. You’ll be working to support student academic representatives and coordinate the academic representation process at the LSE. We have hundreds of dedicated student academic representatives who want to improve student education at the LSE – you’ll work to register reps from every department across the School, and then devise and deliver training for them. Once the reps are in place, you’ll organise events where they can meet one another, and provide opportunities and advice as the year goes on.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for organising and servicing the Consultative Forum meetings of the School, building relationships with key stakeholders across the university, and coordinating our annual Teaching Awards!

Who are we looking for?

Academic representation is crucial to ensuring that students feel supported and listened to. We’re looking for an individual who is passionate about amplifying the voice of LSE students and ensuring that students are at the heart of everything that the School does.

The post-holder will have excellent organisation skills, and will be able to work collaboratively with colleagues across both the Students’ Union and the School in order to facilitate the academic representation system. We’re looking for someone who can both plan and deliver engaging training to students, and is able to support and motivate student volunteers. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, alongside the ability to work to multiple deadlines and work under their own initiative. They’ll also have strong administrative and analytical skills, and be able to successfully plan and deliver events.

We welcome applications from individuals who have previously been Sabbatical Officers at other Students’ Unions, although this is by no means a pre-requisite for the role!

We also particularly welcome applicants from individuals who are marginalised on the basis of their race or ethnicity, and from individuals who define as disabled or neurodivergent.

Why apply?

Because you’re excited by the challenge! The exact opposite of corporate, we’re progressive, daring and creative individuals working to make a difference in unconventional workplaces.

Benefits and Perks

In return for your passion and experience we offer:

  • 25 days holidays per year
  • Additional closure periods at Christmas and Easter
  • Free LSE Students’ Union gym membership, advice from dedicated professionals, with a wide range of activities including yoga classes, dance classes, pilates classes
  • Cycle to Work scheme enabling significant savings on bicycle purchase
  • Access to LSE & UAL staff training courses
  • Ability to purchase TOTUM (NUS) card giving wide range of discounts
  • Flexibility for work-life balance
  • Interest free Travel loan
  • 10% cafe discount
  • Free eye exams
  • Employee Assistance Program – external consultants providing advice and counselling on a broad range of issues
