- Job Title: Student Adviser
- Responsible to: Advocacy Manager
- Salary: £27,777 per annum
- Deadline: 9am Monday 17th October 2022
- Interviews: Monday 24th October 2022
We’re on the look-out for an enthusiastic and passionate Student Adviser who will support students through times of difficulty and help empower them to exercise their rights and make informed decisions. You’ll be comfortable working in a fast-paced and demanding role, which includes providing academic and housing advice to students in person, via email, via web applications and over the phone.
While you will be supervised by the Advocacy Manager, you will have responsibility for managing your own caseload and for accurately recording your notes and interactions.
You will come armed with experience of academic and housing advice provision, and will understand the importance of confidentiality, taking a client-centred approach, and dealing with cases empathetically. You will also possess excellent communication skills and be motivated by a desire to achieve great outcomes for students.
Experience of working in a Students’ Union is not essential. We are especially interested in candidates from under-represented groups, and those who have experience working with diverse populations. We encourage applications from black and minority ethnic candidates, who are currently under-represented within the Guild.

The BAME Guaranteed Interview Scheme at Liverpool Guild of Students is committed to the principles of equality of opportunity. We annually review racial diversity within our workforce and it is a key priority for us to improve racial and ethnic diversity amongst our workforce, and as such we particularly welcome applications from black and minority ethnic (BAME) candidates and have introduced a BAME guaranteed interview scheme. We recognise that applicants from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) backgrounds may have experienced additional barriers when applying for new roles.
Therefore, we are taking positive action to address an under-representation within our organisation. If you meet the minimum criteria (at least 80% of the ‘essential’ criteria in the person specification) and are from a BAME background, you’ll be guaranteed an interview. If you are a BAME applicant and would like to be considered under our guaranteed interview scheme, you must indicate this by selecting the relevant box on the Equality and Diversity Monitoring Form. If you do not select this box, your application will be considered alongside all other applications. It is important to note that this scheme guarantees an interview for BAME applicants who meet the minimum criteria. The selection decision at interview will be based on the most suitable candidate, regardless of background or protected characteristic.
If you would like to discuss any aspect of the role or the Guild further please contact Morven Proctor Director of Membership services by emailing [email protected]
