Job Description

Job Title: Marketing Manager
Salary: up to £35,000
Responsible to: Head of Community Operations
Responsible for: Marketing team and student staff
Location: Based at College Lane Campus, although work at other sites may occasionally be required.

Main duties and responsibility:

General

  • Combine the full strategic and tactical marketing mix to develop a strong and compelling brand for the Union amongst its various stakeholder groups.
  • Assist with the creation and delivery of a marketing strategy for the Union.
  • Oversee all Union-wide messaging and communications, including all digital platforms.
  • Act as the first point of contact for the management and support of the Marketing team; setting out tasks and appraising performance.
  • Work with other departments to ensure all SU activity and events are appropriately communicated out across our messaging platforms.

Brand management

  • Develop and oversee the Union’s branding and visual ID across all physical, print and digital media formats and applications and including any product or service sub-branding where applicable.
  • Embed our recent SU rebrand into all communications channels, ensuring consistency of approach.
  • Support SLT, Elected Officers and staff in embedding the brand and brand values into all union activities and services, ensuring consistent application and user experience across all touchpoints.

Digital communications

  • Develop the Union’s digital marketing and communications strategy
  • Plan and manage digital content for the Union’s social media channels, website, emails and other digital communication channels, ensuring all content is recent, relevant and engaging.
  • Oversee the day-to-day management and development of The Union’s website including structure and functionality, performance, content maintenance and user training and support.
  • Appropriately segment our stakeholder groups and use the spectrum of digital channels to provide effective, tailored communication with each segment.

Face to face, event and experiential marketing

  • Co-ordinate the Union’s contribution to university events such as Open Days.
  • In conjunction with the Community Events team, Student Development team and Elected Officers, support the growth and development of school-based events and activities.

Staff management

  • Manage the staff in the Marketing Department, supporting and developing them to deliver the team’s objectives and goals.
  • Manage the recruitment of team members, supporting and managing their performance as necessary.
  • Manage the workflow of team members and use appropriate processes to ensure the team are productive, happy and staff wellbeing is prioritised.

General duties:

  • Make recommendations and present proposals on strategic planning and departmental and sector-wide developments to relevant managers and officers.
  • Provide reports, visit other Unions and undertake research as required in order to develop the department.
  • Have a flexible approach to work and to undertake any other reasonable duties that may be required, including general administration.
  • Ensure the effective and efficient day to day running of the department.
  • Take responsibility for the recruitment, selection, training, management, support, deployment and development of all staff, including student staff, in line with established policies and procedures.
  • Respect the democratic structure of the Students’ Union at all times. The post holder will work closely with elected officers of the Union.
  • Abide by the Union Constitution, and Union policies and procedures at all times.
  • Be sensitive when handling confidential information.
  • Set high standards of integrity, punctuality, accuracy, politeness and professionalism. By personal example promote a positive image of the Union and ensure staff provide an excellent customer service.
  • Be aware of the department’s impact on the environment and to work within the environmental policies of the Union and the University (where applicable).

Supervision received

The post holder reports to the Head of Operations of Hertfordshire Students’ Union, but will work closely with other staff members and elected officers.  The post holder will also work with a variety of contractors, University staff/departments and the local authority.

The post holder will supervise staff working within the Marketing Team at Herts SU.
