AboutThe Students’ Union is a student-led charity – we focus on supporting you, bringing people together, representing your academic interests, and making opportunities to get involved. We’re led by a team of student Sabbatical Officers (sabbs) that you elect each year.
The University of Surrey Students’ Union is at an exciting moment in its history as we look to improve upon our recent NSS results that showed we were the 7th best Students’ Union in the UK. We are about to start the process of developing a new strategic plan and are recruiting a new member of the Senior Management Team to lead on the Union’s people management, HR and student representative functions.
The Head of People & Representation will be responsible for leading the Union’s approach to Human Resources and people management, with a focus on ensuring the Union is an employer of choice. We recognise that to be the best Union for our members we need to recruit, train and retain the best possible staff; the Head of People & Representation will lead on this approach and be a champion for best practice across the organisation.
The role holder will also be responsible for ensuring the Union excels in its representative and support functions through our Voice and Support Zones. The Union should be, and be seen, to be the expert on University of Surrey Students and the issues they are facing in their student and academic lives. The Union should also be seen as the first-place students go to when they need help be it through our advice function or through our innovative support services such as Nightline and Student Minds. The Head of People & Representation will also be responsible for the Union’s Governance functions, ensuring the Board of Trustees and its sub committees are well run and supported.
