AboutThe Students’ Union at Bournemouth University (SUBU) is a successful democratic membership organisation working to improve the student experience for all students at Bournemouth University (BU). SUBU has a vision to have a positive impact on every Bournemouth University student's journey. As a registered charity led by our values and guided by our students, we do this by providing wide-ranging services and support to the 18,000 students at BU. SUBU's main offices are based on the Talbot Campus. SUBU has a £3m per-annum turnover and employs approximately 150 full and part-time staff.
Help every student have the best experience at Bournemouth University.
SUBU has built a reputation for being a union which is values led. We believe in empowering people to realise their potential. We know that university can be a challenging time in students’ lives, which is why we support them with compassion and understanding and by delivering advice and guidance. We facilitate student groups and provide a range of activities to help our students relax, make friends and have fun. We also empower them to ‘learn by doing’ and to stretch themselves in other ways alongside their studies. Most of all, through our elected student officers, we advocate on behalf of students to Bournemouth University (BU), stakeholders in the local community and nationally so that they can hear and react to the needs and aspirations of all BU students.
We have a passionate team of staff, elected officers and trustees who are excited by our vision and are determined to give students the best possible experience. Our approach is to work professionally in partnership with BU and we have won NUS awards for our work and have achieved Investors in People and Investors in Diversity quality marks.
We are anything but complacent. We are currently developing a 2019-2023 vision and we will need to build the systems and structures to support the staff and officers to grow, develop and adjust to an ever-changing higher education sector.
As our Chief Executive, you will have the opportunity to build from a strong base, develop a strategic plan and work with an engaged team who want to be able to deliver more benefit to even more students.
Your leadership ability is the primary consideration, although prior experience as a Chief Executive and connections to the student movement or education would be advantageous
SUBU recognises that its full time workforce is not as diverse as it would like, as a consequence we would welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds.
