Newman University Students’ Union

About

Newman Students’ Union is at a very exciting time in its development. In the last twelve months it has made great strides towards a new era of student centred engagement. In a short space of time it has seen: • A move to a new and more prominent, larger space at the heart of our vibrant campus. • A seat for the Union Director on the University Operations Team. • Large increases in all areas of engagement demonstrating a strong post Covid resurgence. Whilst all of these things are to be celebrated, Newman SU can not sit still and look backwards. It must look forward to the future and as the 2020-2023 strategic plan comes to an end, it is time for a new student led strategic plan.

Job Description

Thank you for your interest in becoming our next Union Director at Newman Students’ Union. We are a registered charity that exists to support and empower students at Newman University to make positive change that improves the student experience. We’re looking for a new Union Director that will help us deliver that mission.

Newman University is, in many ways, an incredible place to be a student and we’re proud to study here/have studied here. As student leaders, we’re also committed to making the experience for future students even better by providing fantastic opportunities for students and by challenging the University to be even better.

With a wide range of activities and student projects, a professional advice service and a growing academic representation system there are a broad range of ways that students can get involved and that we can have a positive impact on their lives. We’ve developed a good relationship with the University and we will continue to nurture that. Maintaining our strong relationships right across the university will be a priority for our next Union Director.

We are looking for a new Union Director that will help us build on a strong foundation of student engagement that has been established over recent years and to help continue building that so we can truly represent our unique and diverse membership. This includes creating our next strategy for 2023 onwards and seeing this through to successful delivery.

We’ll need someone to bring a good understanding of policy and influencing to support with this. You’ll need to be an empowering and supportive leader that is able to champion equality, diversity and inclusion and must also be able to mentor and challenge us, as student officers, to help us have the biggest impact possible during our time in the SU.

Make sure to check out or recruitment pack on the Vacancies page of newmansu.org and even if you don’t think that you fit all of the person specification, please feel encouraged to still apply!
