AboutNewman Students’ Union is a fast developing organisation with around 3000 students that has recently introduced a brand new two-tier course representation system, an academic advice service run entirely by placement students and overhauled its governance with a new five year strategic plan and a brand new constitution. The Strategic Plan, passed in September 2017 highlights 4 key themes of focus, which are formatted as promises to our members. They are: 1. We promise to prepare you for life after Newman 2. We promise to put you at the heart of an exciting Newman community 3. We promise to support you to be as happy and healthy as possible 4. We promise to make your voice the loudest
We are a Students’ Union based in Bartley Green in the west of Birmingham that supports, advocates for, and represents nearly 3000 students at Newman University. We describe ourself as small but mighty and are committed to delivering high quality, focused services against the challenges of being a small charity.
Our values and behaviours framework underpin everything we do; we are inclusive, we are brave, we are ambitious against our challenges and we learn from each other, the community and the sector.
We are seeking a new General Manager to lead us through our new Strategic Plan which is currently being developed as part of a wider review of purpose in partnership with the University. We are looking for a driven and enthusiastic individual who shares our values and behaviours, who has experience leading and motivating high performing teams and has the capacity to listen to, hear and learn from others.
Our ideal candidate must be a strong leader who is able to balance partnership, a culture of community and diplomacy with an ability to make evidence-based purposeful decisions.
Having an understanding of the development and delivery of strategy, managing large budgets and having personal credibility to deliver significant targets in tight deadlines is critical to the success of the role. We need a critical and strategic thinker, who can communicate effectively to inspire others to achieve amazing things.
We are committed to supporting those who will be looking to grow with the role, and are particularly interested in hearing from people with lived experiences of barriers in education and/or work which is reflective of a large proportion of our students.
