Details We are looking to recruit an experienced professional to manage our Activities and Representation Team, being instrumental in leading the development of Student Engagement Activities at BCUSU.  Following a restructure last year, bringing together the Student Voice and Representation Team with the Societies and Student Activities team, the manager will be leading the team of 4 coordinators, utilising agile project methodology.  They will be responsible for increasing student participation and ensure BCU students have a voice and are able to make change happen.   The successful candidate will have great leadership skills and be able to inspire others. An understanding of democratic or student voice structures (such as student rep system)  and / or experience in developing volunteer led or student societies and activities would be advantageous.  A positive people manager and a can-do attitude are also essential attributes. Principal purpose of job:        Lead the team and be instrumental in embedding agile project management methodology within the ways of working

Increase Student Participation and maximise the Student Experience

Ensure that that students are able to make change happen

Location and times of work:   Main place of work City Centre and City South with the expectation to work and visit other campuses regularly

Responsible to:                      Head of Engagement
Responsible for:                     Line management responsibility of Activities & Representation Team.  Overall budgetary and resource responsibility for Activities & Representation team

Specific Duties:

1.     Lead the team and be instrumental in embedding agile project management methodology within the ways of working

a.     To manage and lead the Activities & Representation team to achieve organisational targets

b.     To lead and support the Activities & Representation team to work in an agile project management framework

c.     To ensure the team are empowered to self-organise where appropriate

d.     To lead on creating a framework to ensure projects and performance are regularly evaluated

e.     To cultivate a high performance culture within the team, inspiring team members to deliver and are motivated to achieve shared goals

f.       To ensure the team are supported by conducting regular 1-2-1’s, team meetings, performance reviews etc.

g.     Regular management reporting including, but not limited to, monthly variance report, strategic map, budget setting

h.     To have overall responsibility for the Activities & Representation team budget yet engaging the coordinators in taking responsibility for monitoring project spend.

i.       Participation in BCUSU manager meetings, committees and as well as working with University contacts to develop relationships to increase team impact and generate wider opportunities for students and remove barriers to participation.

j.       Development of team strategy and setting of team goals (regular and stretch).

 

2.     Increase Student Participation and Maximise the student experience
a.     Seek out partnership activity within the University and externally to support and diversify the opportunities offered by BCUSU’s strategic plan
a.     To take the lead in ensuring all students are offered a diverse, exciting and relevant range of activities, with a focus on diversity, inclusion and accessibility.
b.     To oversee the recruitment, development and training of Student Leaders, Student Reps, and students to maximise their involvement in curricular and extra-curricular activities
c.     To oversee the design, delivery and evaluation of a training, induction and support program for all student leaders
d.     To establish and maintain an effective monitoring system to record the participation levels of all active students within student led activity
e.     Preparation of case studies and student stories highlighting the impact of extracurricular activity on the student experience
f.       To work with the Elected Officers and colleagues to establish University links for increased student participation in both curricular and extra-curricular activity

g.     Ensure wider BCUSU staff are sufficiently briefed to engage students in team activity
h.     Ensure the student employability agenda is embedded in the work of the team
3.     Ensure that students are able to make change happen

a.     Oversee the development of effective student voice structures, including the Student Representation / Student Academic Leaders scheme and BCUSU’s democratic structures, removing any barriers to engagement

b.     Work to ensure BCUSU remains student led at all levels, and offer students clear opportunities to get involved in decision making and having their voices heard

c.     Keep up to date with changes in BCUSU, BCU and national policy that impact on the work of the Union or on student membership and support others to understand such changes

d.     To ensure a suitable campaigning strategy is embedded within BCUSU, and to support the further development of student-led campaigning across the University born from the student voice.

e.     To take the lead to ensure the Executive Officer elections are conducted fairly and to maximise student engagement
